Compound Radius
The fingerboard on a steel-string guitar is usually curved (radiused) across its width. The purpose of this radius is to increase playing comfort. Straight radius necks have been the industry standard since the inception of guitars and are still used by the majority of products.
Compound Radius Fingerboard
"Compound Radius" is the name for an advanced fingerboard technology. The radius gradually increases over the board's length, beginning more rounded near the head and flattening out towards the body. Compound Radius fretboards make chord playing easy as well as free soloing at the upper areas.
Compound Radius is standard on FGN VIRTUOSO OS, EXPERT OS, NEO CLASSIC NCST, and NCTL series. As an option, it can be ordered to all our models.
Compound Radius Fingerboard
We have decided on a 250mm (10") radius at the nut for comfort and excellent grip feelings for chords. As we get to the upper playing areas, such a tight fingerboard radius is often the cause of unwanted buzz string bending, which in turn has to be countered by high string action.
A 350mm (14") radius at the heel has proven ideal. It affords comprehensive bends with string-action below 1.9mm and smooth finger work in the leads and solos.
